country biscuits

For several years now it has been my goal to learn biscuits, so that I could make biscuits and gravy (b and g) from scratch. I learned gravy in 2004. Today I learned biscuits. With the help of another poet, I attempted biscuits on Easter Sunday, but our biscuits, had they been Christ himself, may not have found strength enough to push that boulder aside and rise. I am sad to report, they turned out a little flat. Tasty, but not touched by God. If that is sacrilege, I don't care. I have other things on my mind.

Like the reading I am going to give at Amherst Books tonight! Yikes! Francesca is reading with me. Jess is also reading with me. Francesca and Jess are my Alpha and Omega. This poet's breakfast is rich in omega 3 fatty acids, thanks to the eggs, and I swear, as I sat alone in my living room, savoring my biscuits and wiping runny yolk with their crumbly tendernesses, I had enjoyed the alpha of lonely breakfasts. Well, I tried to pack everything into that sentence, and I am not sure how gracefully I succeeded, but nevertheless I did try.

And so I am going to try this evening. I am going to try to give the best reading I possibly can. I have selected my poems, and I gave them a practice run this morning. There is a preponderance of sandwiches and philosophers and deli counters in the selections, and that's just they way it is.

good guy!
Why don't you try to propose some receipt for special categories of people, such as: I-do-not-want-to-go-out-and-buy-anything potato soup, or,the I-came-home-late supper, or the unemployed grillade?

If I had an oven I would attempt biscuits. I do have a cast iron skillet with a lid. Hmm....
