Dashboard-mounted camera

The other night the old lightbulb in my brain flipped on and I had a vision of velcro.  I thought I could easily mount my camera on my dashboard with sticky velcro tape.  I thought it'd be as simple as a trip to WalMart.  I was wrong.  Nothing sticks to vinyl dashboards.  Adhesive repellent vinyl dashboards are probably the greatest invention in history for parents with kids who cannot help but plaster the dashboard with stickers from the dentist, but they are not useful to X-Country Road and Farm bloggers who want kick ass road footage.  I bought the envisioned velcro tape, but tape alone would not be enough.  I had to "engineer" a solution with a plank of wood and some shims I made from downed tree branches.  This X-Country Road and Farm Adventure Fun(d) Drive will be over tomorrow.  The time to click the gas can is now.  Until then, here's some practice footage I took with my dashboard mounted camera in Whatley, Massachusetts, where hurricane Irene did very little damage.

Thanks for hanging in there during the August-long Oilchanges X-Country Road and Farm Adventure Fun(d) Drive month.  I will be on the road shortly.  Jono

I love the idea of a dashboard mount camera trip. The places you travel brings a lot of nice travel experience and who knows, what you might capture in those camera. Hey, why not be the first dashboard mount camera travel services?

If you want to drive properly with your knee, you must have a Big Mac in one hand and some device in the other. Or you can just dance with your hands.

Funny..... Just browsing through and glad I found this. You are a nut! The world needs more of you. And GB, the art of driving with the knee is never mastered until you can reach ZEN with it: coffee in one hand, mascara brush in the other, applying mascara to eyelashes while staring into the rear view mirror and doing 70 on an interstate between two 18-wheelers. Naked.
